I stayed at The Commercial Hotel for three nights to get some much needed down-time. It was lovely and I really did not want to come home. I stayed in the Deluxe Suite which had a very comfy bed, a big bath and a balcony. I set out each day to one of the surrounding National Parks and did some long walks and steep climbs! But I came back to a relaxing bath and a delicious meal with good local wines. The staff were very friendly. The Commercial offers a luxury break and a great base from which to explore the very beautiful Bald Rock and Boonoo Boonoo National Parks. I would thoroughly recommend it.
There is always something happening against the backdrop of excellent food and wine. Love the locals who gather and make me feel welcome and a home away from home. Well done to the great staff and management. I will return.
When guests stay at the property, they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff is, and more.

My favourite boutique hotel has excelled in the food and wine. Enjoyed the winter escape from Brisbane.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. Your comment about the 1930s is exactly what we have tried to achieve, and we are very pleased you like it. We look forward to having you stay again.
We proudly opened the hotel, wine bar and restaurant to the public on September 19th 2014, and followed that up with the official opening of the Curve Bar on September 19th 2015.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our Hotel. We are so pleased when people have enjoyed staying with us. We hope to see you again in the future!
Stayed in July We heard about this place from a friend, who told us that it was an amazing renovation of a beautiful Art Deco hotel from the 40s. We decided to make a trip to Tenterfield from Brisbane during the recent snow, as we liked the idea of sitting by a full open fire in the country. We were not disappointed. We stayed in room 4, one of the nicer rooms which had a deep bath. The finishings are beautiful, right down to the selection of prints and the carpet – which has an old world charm about it. The block out blinds and acoustic glass, together with the pillow topped bed, made for an amazing night’s sleep. The ensuite was beautiful, with black and white tiles on the wall, boutique fittings and a large walk in shower with rain head. The old fashioned basketweave tiles on the floor were amazing to walk on. That night, we had a meal that lived up to our expectations prepared by a French chef (we didn’t expect that). There is plenty of nice wine on the list at reasonable prices, and we sat and finished off the evening by another large fireplace in the bar. Tim, an owner and manager was very friendly and took the time to make sure that we’d enjoyed everything. Plus it snowed the morning of our arrival in Tenterfield. We’ll recommend it to our friends. More

The Commercial Hotel was originally built in the 1856 and was burnt down twice, once in 1877 and then again in the 1930’s. Rebuilt in 1941 as a hotel by the Tooheys Corporation, this two-story Art Deco building went through many stylistic alterations over the years at the whim of various publicans. And, on one fateful day in 2006, the staff and managers closed shop for the last time and never returned.

After ensuring the preservation of these incredible features we then converted the existing 18 rooms into 8 luxury accommodation rooms, and developed the ground floor into a high quality restaurant, a craft beer & wine bar and a more casual dining sports bar for the enjoyment of our local patrons.
Our family partnership took on the mammoth task of renovating and restoring this historic piece of architecture in September of 2013. To our surprise, even after 7 years of closure there were still kegs tapped and beds made up complete with folded towels and bars of soap. Our aim was to return the building to its original 1940s grandeur while adding an element of minimalistic industrial retro charm. We also wanted to provide spacious boutique rooms and bathrooms – all the comforts of modern travelling.

While stripping the hotel we came upon some stunning original features that we knew we wanted to preserve. One such was the exposed red Tenterfield brick that was a staple of local construction during the Second World War. Others included the solid silky-oak doors with their original leadlight, the stunning rustic fireplaces that had been tiled over with chintzy 70s décor, and the ornate cornices and charming balustrades.

On our way through Tenterfield, we had the pleasure of staying at this gorgeous hotel. We stayed in the Deluxe Queen with bath and balcony, and wow… What a little gem of a room! Beautifully furnished with a lovely 1930’s black and white theme, this room was luxurious and comfortable. The bathroom, with its featured free-standing bath, was a delight.Highly recommended, will make a point of staying here again next year on our way through to QLD!

We stayed for just the one night on the way from Sydney to Brisbane. The hotel is very tastefully restored. We booked a premier room, with a bath. We were a little concerned that it was a room fronting the highway, but the double glazing meant that there was very little traffic noise. We like a firm mattress, so the bed was a little soft for us, but not overly so, but no problems otherwise and we had plenty of hot water. We had dinner at the restaurant in front of the fire. The food was superb and the service was very good. We would definitely consider staying here again.
We are certainly very proud to have received first place in ‘Tourism’, ‘Innovation’ and also ‘Hospitality’ categories, and second place in ‘Business Of The Year’ and ‘Customer Service’ at the Tenterfield Tourism Awards this year. We are pleased as punch! What an amazing two years it has been since we bought the hotel, and decided to renovate and finally opened our doors! We are so very pleased to hear that our dining patrons and accommodation guests have liked the final outcome.
On the website for this Hotel, which is a good hotel, we booked for what we thought would be this wonderful romantic room, like what was in the pics and paid top dollar for and got stuck in a bedroom with disabled bathroom, not the beautiful claw footed bath that was in their photograph, we were very disappointed. To access our room, had to walk out of the hotel and into the main street, on a freezing cold winter’s night to gain access to our room. If we had been told that we weren’t going to get the beautiful bathroom and that we would have to leave to the inside of the hotel to gain access to our room, then we wouldn’t taken it. The bed well there is something wrong with it, it was so soft or worn out (with a pillow topper), that we sank/rolled into it and had trouble getting out of it and had sore backs and we paid top dollar and were just so disappointed in these aspects. Staff were wonderful, very accommodating and friendly
Thank you for you feedback and for reviewing our hotel. We are always trying to improve. We’re sorry you didn’t get the room you had wanted on this occasion. We’ve taken your feedback onboard and have modified the wording of our website to make it especially clear for future bookers that our street access room (room 8) is accessed from outside. Hopefully the mistake won’t happen again. Please feel free to email us directly as we’d love to make it up to you.
